NOTHING WRONG WITH POLITICAL DYNASTIES?

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH POLITICAL DYNASTIES????

I was surprised to see this in the front page of a broad sheet, a few days ago....when a certain senator said this...it was said without the question mark...he was reassuring us, that there was noting wrong with political dynasties.....

The ones who usually say that there is nothing wrong with building a dynasty are those who've already built o

ne in their city or province...and those starting to build one.....

These are the reasons they've given....."We don't appoint our relatives, they run for elective positions, and the people vote for them."..."It is their right to run for public office, and it is the voter's decision to vote for their relatives or not."......On the surface, said reasons seem logical and fair.....but are they really....fair, just, and right!

Let's think about it....

(1) If a certain person, of unquestionable good moral character, and unchallenged qualifications and leadership skills, were to run in a city where most of the local officials belong to one family...do you really think he can win, regardless of how qualified he is?

In this particular city, this mayor is about to reach his term limits on 2013, his son will run for mayor in the next elections...so on all the banners in this city....on all the projects being done and already finished, it is not just the incumbent mayor's face on the banner, beside him in his son's face....who, in all likelihood, had nothing to do with the project....but the present mayor wants people to know and recognize his son, for the coming elections....

How can this deserving, more qualified person win, when his main competition already has his face plastered all over the city? The incumbent has all the machinery that will be used to make sure his son wins...by hook or by crook!....

Now is this fair?

(2) You serve as Town Vice Mayor or Provincial Vice Governor, for 9 years....you have gained the experience and the knowledge for the job....then after 9 years, when the term of the incumbent Mayor or Governor is over...does he give the position to you, or does he endorse you to the voters...NO...his son, his brother, his daughter, his wife or even his mistress, will now run for Mayor or Governor...this poor Vice Mayor or Vice Governor is forgotten, along with his years of loyal service.....

Is this fair? Is this just?

(3) For example, if in a particular place, a De Guzman is the Congressman, a De Guzman is the Governor, a De Guzman is the Mayor, a De Guzman is even the Barangay Chairman...one De Guzman may even be in the Senate....Now if Mayor De Guzman cheats in the election, will Governor De Guzman say anything, or will he cover for him?....Now if Governor De Guzman steals, will Congressman go to the DILG or will he cover for him?

Wouldn't it be better, if a De Guzman was the Congressman, a Rodriguez was the Mayor, a Garcia was the Governor, a Gutierrez was the Head of the Barangays?...So that if Mayor Rodriguez cheats, Congressman De Guzman will make sure that he doesn't get away with it....If Governor Garcia cheats in the election, Mayor Rodriguez will raise hell.....in short there will be checks and balances...no cover-ups.

Which is fairer, which is preferable.....the setting wherein every official has the same surname....or one wherein people from different families are in position and can make sure that the other one is doing his job?

(4) Are these people who have now built their own fortresses and dynasties, so convinced that only their relatives can serve their place? Aren't there any brilliant, well qualified people with a different surname and a different blood line who can run the city? For me to assume that only they can serve is to insult every other Filipino! Sila lang ba ang matalino?

What is the first thing that comes onto your mind when you hear of a family trying to get every position in their place?

Do you think it's because of their desire to serve....or...
Do you think it's because they're hiding something.....or....
Do you think it's because they're protecting each other...or
Do you think it's because they enjoyed the money and the power so much, and would like to keep it within the family?

Political Dynasties = Warlords

Political Dynasties....their existence promises unfair and unjust elections.

Political Dynasties....the reason given for their existence is stupid and is insulting.

Political Dynasties....their continued existence is a sure formula for corruption and for our downfall.
There is nothing wrong with political dynasties.....kung saksakan ng kapal ang pagmumukha ninyo!
