Probably everybody in the Philippines knows about Secretary Robredo's sterling record as a government official, as the Mayor of Naga and as DILG Chief....He has received awards for his achievements in this field, and praises for his dedication and honesty to his work at hand.
What I most admire about him is what I've heard from his family, his wife
and his kids in particular. His wife says, they communicate, at least, 10x a day, through phone or through texting. His children says he always attends all their activities and functions at school....even when He was a mayor and continued to do so, when he became the DILG secretary.
Who among us, even those with ordinary jobs, finds the time to communicate with his wife 10 x a day. This guy is the DILG chief, a man with awesome responsibilities, but still finds the time to talk or to text his wife. Some husbands text their wives to make an excuse, most just don't find the need or the desire to do so.
Who among us fathers, again with ordinary jobs, attend all of our kids' activities at school. This guy had several government departments under his wing, all the mayors, the governors, the PNP and the NAPOLCOM....but he made it a point to be there when his kids needed him. How many fathers actually pretend to be too busy, just to skip their kid's activities. Excuses vary from,....I'm so busy at work, I'm exhausted and need the rest, I came home late last night.....
Secretary Robredo finds the time to communicate with Atty. Leny Robredo at least 10x a day, while other husbands don't even remember their wives until they see them, and still they don't communicate.
Secretary Robredo finds the time to be with his kids in every school functions, while other fathers rack their brains for excuses not to be with their kids.
Secretary Robredo has put all husbands and fathers on notice.....Secretary Robredo through his examples are telling all husbands and fathers....that being with your family.....is never about the time, it is never about the work.....it should be about the desire....it is should be about the love.
One final thing....when Secretary Robredo's body was found, they were surprised to see his wrist watch still working....this watch will be handed down to his youngest daughter.....the watch of this former mayor and DILG Chief was not a Rolex, not an Omega, not a Patek....it was a Timex.....He has set an example to his kids...he will not be bought, he will not destroy his name and he will not enrich himself at the expense of his poor countrymen.....His watch is not just a Timex....it was the Timex of an honest, incorruptible, diligent and dedicated public servant and loving husband and devoted father.....This Time piece has become priceless.
