Probably a week ago, while at the playground at school watching over Lizzie....I and Dinah chanced at this woman, also at the playground....it was the first time we saw her....but she truly was someone who could grab your attention, as she was wearing a jacket, a hat and several jewelries.....for a while it defined her...........
and then she spit on the grou
nd, right there, outside the playground....she did it twice.........
after that.....her clothes and her jewelries didn't matter anymore.....her actions.....her spitting on the floor....that defined her....and to a certain extent....it described her upbringing!
I've said it a hundred times to my kids....one's social standing or financial status, or even religion, should not be a stumbling block to one's having right manners....
this is our job....the job of all parents.
Our kids will be taught right manners and conduct in school....but if when they come home, they hear you swearing, they see you spitting anywhere, they see you throwing your garbage on the floor, they see you hitting your spouse, they see you drunk, they witness you being disrespectful to your elders, they hear you belittling the help.........
who do you think they will imitate....their teacher, or their parents?
It is actually about us....it is about the parents....teaching our kids the right manners and telling them, constantly, to respect others and to respect themselves.
Really, it is never about the clothes!
