The 4th Commandment says..."Honor your father and your mother."....
as parents, let us all endeavor to be worthy of our children's honor and respect.....
We can lecture them about it, we can buy them gifts, we can quote scriptures...
but really, the best way to get respect is to prove to your children that you deserve it....
First....
try not to embarrass your kids....
No matter where you are...
no matter what the situation is....
no matter who you're dealing with...
no matter how young or old you are...
always carry yourself with decency and integrity....
don't malign or insult other people....and
try your best to respect everyone....
even those that don't seem to deserve it.
2nd,
and even more important for our kids....
wherever you are,
whatever the situation is,
no matter how young or old they are...
treat your kids with respect....
don't insult them, don't yell at them in public....
treat them as you would want to be treated...
and always love them with all your heart......
even during the most trying times...
and even when they don't seem to deserve it.
You will then get the respect even without asking for it.
For me, there is no higher form of respect...
and no sweeter form of praise...
than the ones I hope to get from my kids.
To someday, hear all of my kids say,....
"That's my dad, he's just the greatest!"...
No honor, no award can be greater than this!
"Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother!", as children, let us endeavor to do this,
and as parents, let us work hard to be worthy of this!
