HONESTY AND THE CHIEF JUSTICE

Back in 2010.... just 2 or 3 months after taking his oath as Chief Justice, Corona said this at an MOPC gathering...again, remember, these were his words...."If a chief justice is found to be dishonest, he should not only be dismissed, but he should be disbarred!".

I admire Corona for saying this, but I will admire him more if he lives up to it.  I hope his defense lawyers launch a defense anchored on honesty, transparency and trustworthiness....none of those technicalities that may have someone acquitted in a court of law....but does nothing to restore the people's faith in him....only a defense anchored on truth and honesty can do this....and this is the resolution that the nation needs.

I hope he is not acquitted based on beliefs like...."We all do it!"....."It is an acceptable mistake." "It is not a grave offense."....Find him innocent because he deserves to continue as the Chief Justice...because the Senator judges believe he still has our trust. Render him innocent because through all of this...he maintained his honesty.

He is the Chief Justice...the highest judge in the highest court of the land. He should be beyond reproach and beyond doubt. He should be the model of absolute honesty, trustworthiness and fair play.

I hope that when the Senator Judges make their decision...they do so with this in mind...remember who you serve, remember who you real bosses are. You don't work for President Noynoy, you don't work for Corona, you work for us....and as a Public Servant...you serve us.

"If a chief justice is found to be dishonest, he should not only be dismissed, but he should be disbarred!". ...Renato Corona

"Napakagandang kasabihan, mas makabuluhan, kung paninindigan!"
