THE MARCOS LEGACY

In the last few days...we've heard a lot about the achievements of the Marcos Regime...the infrastructures, the rate of literacy, the beautification projects...

I am saddened that specialized Public Hospitals like National Orthopedic Hospital will soon be owned by private individuals....the other hospitals like the Heart Center, Kidney Institute and Lung Center...have met or will meet the same fate....so as a doctor, my lamentation is..."where will patients with less in life go?"

As far as other infrastructures are concerned....said regime probably built more than all the other Presidents combined.
So his achievements cannot be erased...they continue to be witnessed each day....

But while Marcos's achievements cannot be denied........
the theft, the lying, the cheating, the willingness to do anything to stay in power....these are undeniable facts as well.

Most people have become cynical and they will tell you this..."Everybody does it, every elected official will steal anyway."

As a Catholic or as a Christian....we know that wrong is always wrong....regardless of the number of people and the quality of people who does it.

I've always believed this...Marcos was a brilliant person and perhaps even, once, dedicated to public service...but he was destroyed by greed for money and for power. SAYANG!!!

We never ever compromise about the simple truths in life.
This is what we tell our kids....."It is wrong to steal. It is wrong to lie. It is wrong to cheat."...there are no ifs and buts about this.
