CHALLENGE TO ALL SJCS STUDENTS

A CHALLENGE TO SJCS STUDENTS....FROM AN SJCS GRADUATE AND A FATHER

(with Dinah Dizon De Guzman, Mary Nicole De Guzman, Niccolo De Guzman)

Just yesterday, after fetching Lizzie from school, I saw a note in her assignment notebook regarding the strong possibility of raising tuition fees next school year....this bothered me a lot and sent waves of fear into my body....I was rather unsettled after reading that...because with the escalating prices of everything...it's getting very difficult to make ends meet....so I spent the day worrying uselessly, and planning....

Then, I fetch my oldest child Nikki from school and she informs me that most of her classmates will enroll in review schools this summer....sorry for sounding dumb...but I just had to ask...what review, you haven't graduated from any college course yet....you review for board exams.....then she tells me, it's the review for the entrance exams to De LaSalle, Ateneo and UP.....worth 17,000 pesos....and I was shocked a second time....it got me thinking....

This time, I have to apologize again for having to set modesty aside...I graduated from Saint Jude Catholic School...we never had a tutor....when we took our entrance exams for De LaSalle, Ateneo and UP and UST, we never enrolled into any review school.....and the majority of us were granted entrance into ALL of those universities...ALL....it was left to us to choose which schools we would attend, I attended the University of the Philippines (UP) , because I believed it offered the highest quality of education at the most affordable price...so I became a proud "Iskolar ng Bayan".

My sister who is 15 years younger than me, also graduated from Saint Jude, she too, and her batch mates, never enrolled into any review school...and most of them, also, were accepted to De LaSalle, Ateneo, UP and UST....not or....AND..so they were accepted to ALL....My sister chose to go to De LaSalle.

We, the previous graduates, relied on PREMIUM stock knowledge, that was quite in abundance in SJCS.....not on the fact that our parents have the money to send us to review schools which will provide leakages....to questions and answers.

So my challenge to SJCS (Saint Jude Catholic School) students is this : ARE YOU WILLING TO ACCEPT THAT THE PREVIOUS GENERATIONS OF SJCS GRADUATES ARE MUCH WISER AND BETTER EQUIPPED THAN YOU ARE..... OR ARE YOU GOING TO SHOW US THAT YOU ARE JUST AS SMART OR EVEN BETTER THAN US?

THE CHALLENGE HAS BEEN GIVEN!!!

You see, I sincerely believe, that the younger generation are better...you've just gotten too complacent, too dependent on tutors, review schools and technology.

I also ask you, the students now, to be more cognizant of your parents' hardships, and love for you....they may not talk about it, they may try to hide it....but they are having a hard time, what more with this new plan to increase tuition fees...so every little bit of consideration and sacrifice will help tremendously.

GOD BLESS SJCS, ALL IT'S ADMINISTRATORS, TEACHERS, PARENTS AND MOST OF ALL, THE STUDENTS.

THANK YOU TO THE FOUNDERS OF SJCS AND GOD BLESS YOU TOO.

GOD BLESS ALL OF US.

  1. After a long day at work, I go home and yes, on most days I still have to tutor my kids. That is even after we already spent money to have them tutored at school after classes. Times are really different now. Admittedly though, the load seems more and more difficult. Tough call about the review schools. I am not yet at that point. Sometimes you just get them as an expensive security blanket.
